How much weight can you lose being a vegetarian or vegan?13

I am about 5’7" and 170 pounds. I can’t seem to lose weight on diet plans. I even tried the low carb diets and eating that much meat was just too gross for me. Has anyone tried going vegetarian or vegan to lose weight? Would you have any additional recommendations for this dieting method?

I have many friends who have lost 20 or more pounds just by becoming vegetarian. If they worked out, they’d lose even more.

I went vegetarian just over a year ago and lost 8 pounds "accidentally." I’ve kept it off the whole time (5’6" and 130 lbs now). I think the reason it happened is because by cutting out meat, I was also cutting out the stuff that came with it – french fries, soda, etc.

More importantly, I have more energy, need less sleep and overall feel much better. The best part is my monthly cramps have disappeared (no extra hormones in my system from processed meat!)

The important things to remember are:
Being vegetarian doesn’t mean you can eat bread and cheese all day. You need to limit the high-carb items and eat stuff like natural peanut butter, hummus, black beans, vegetarian chili, etc. Amy’s Organic is an awesome line of soups, burritos, frozen meals, etc. that are reasonably priced and found at almost every grocery store.

Consider keeping seafood in your diet. Salmon and tuna are great sources of protein and amino acids and are really easy to prepare.

Quit drinking soda – even the diet stuff. It’s full of chemicals and crap that makes you crave it more, and many brands of the diet stuff have tons of sodium, which makes you hungry. If you need caffeine (like I do) have coffee or tea.

You should give it a try, like I did. Just tell yourself "for one week" cut out all meat, and see how it goes. You may be surprised by how easy the transition is. Good luck!

P.S. – Exercise too! Even walking 30 minutes a day will make a world of difference.

Are diet pills worth the time and money in your opinion?4

I believe they aren’t because once you are off the diet pills then you revert back to your old habits of overeating and gain even more weight. Diet pills are costly and aren’t worth the time to look into when in the long run they won’t have been effective. I can’t find any information on the price of diet pills on google or yahoo. & keep in mind this question pertains to my 10th grade research paper. Please, if you respond, make your answer informative, not just a ‘yes’ or no’ answer. Thank you.

What crash diets are there?1

What crash diets could i go on to loose abit of weight in a week?
& im sure someone will write a lecture.. so.. dont waste your time. I’ll just egnore it :)

There’s a diet, commonly called 2468 where you eat 200 calories one day, 400 calories the next, 600 after that, and 800 for the last day, then the cycle repeats.

The diet is used by most people who want to loose weight fast and who want to keep it off. The purpose of it is to keep your metabolism guessing because all it knows is what was consumed the day before and doesn’t know what the future holds.

Of course, like every other diet exercise must still be included. On average a person who abides by 2468 should loose 10 lbs per month

How can I lose weight from only my stomach and nowhere else?6

I am tall and thin, but have too fat a belly for my weight. I do not want to lose weight, and am actually trying to gain weight. However, my belly is also expanding as I do this. How can I lose weight in only my stomach and no where else? I have tried exercises targeted for the tummy, but was told I need to burn/melt off the fat first using cardio so the toned muscles will show. How do I melt away the pounds from only my stomach?

theres no such thing as spot reducing (burning fat from one part of the body only)

if you want to lose weight i suggest you cut down on junk food and fizzy drinks in your diet and eventually cut these out. You could also try eating less carbs as these supply vast amounts of energy that is slowly released and if this energy is not used up you will put on weight. I would also advise you not to eat late as this means our body’s store more of the energy as fat as we don’t use that much energy when sleeping.

You should be aiming to get at least 1 hour of cardio a day so i would say to do some running, swimming or cycling. If you chose to cycle then try to stand up while cycling as this tones the thighs more.

Another way to help you lose weight quicker is to boost your metabolism so you burn more calories throughout the day. A good way to boost your metabolism is to get more muscle mass to body fat, to do this do sit-ups, crunches and press-ups if you want get a set of weights and follow the instructions that should come with them. At first you may put on weight as muscle weighs more than fat but keep to it and you’ll look better, Another way is to exercise in the morning as this boosts the metabolism and this falls very slowly which will mean you’ll burn more calories throughout the day.

Can someone explain detox diets and crash diets to me, and how much weight could I lose if I went on one?2


They don’t work! Diets and Meds don’t work unless your workout.

Even if they do it’s not going to keep the weight off! It’s more practical to workout!
